Fujimusume is originally one
of the titles of Otsue (Popular paintings sold in Oiwake,
Otsu during the Edo period). Based on that, Fujimusume is
often played in the stage for Classical Japanese dance and
kabuki as a character known as “Fujinohananosei,” which represents
a spirit of wisteria.
藤娘はもともと大津絵の画題の1つですが、それを元に日本舞踊や歌舞伎の演目にも「藤の花の精」として登場するようになります。羽子板や日本人形にも用いられる非常に有名な女性です。
